Broken Romeo are a fantastic new rock band on the scene, bringing classic hard rock back to the masses! We checked out their track Wait For Me recently and loved it, so I wanted to find out more. Read our interview below with James Turpin to find out more.
By Jane Howkins
You recently released a single titled Wait For Me, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the track?
The song was written in an open G tuning which is a little different for us. We had been working on covering Dancing Days by Led Zeppelin when we started messing around with that song which is also open G. The song came together quickly as have most of the songs we’ve already released from the Infirmus Orbis album.
How has the reception been so far, and where can Wait For Me be purchased?
The response has been great so far. We have a few nice write ups for the song which we hope will get more people to hear the song. Wait For Me is available on all major streaming platforms and available for download on our Bandcamp site (brokenromeo.com)
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
Yes. We are working on the next single as I write. We are recording and releasing the songs 1 at a time. We did the same thing with our last album Side One.
Have you any plans to release a full-length album or an EP?
This will be a full-length album by the time we are finished with it.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
The writing of this album has been a very organic process. It’s very much a full band process vs one of the band members bringing in finished song ideas. Our guitar player, Steve, will usually bring in a riff and then it’s the bands job to make a song out of it. It’s worked out well so far!
Did the pandemic hinder your work much?
It did at first. When Covid hit we stayed away from each other for months. We have our first gig booked (October 22nd) since the pandemic. Not playing live did allow us to focus on writing and recording so that was a positive.
Your music has an alt rock sound. What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?
The 4 of us all have different influences but for the most part we love the music from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Queen, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, The Ramones, The Cult, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, The Beatles, just to name a few. We just saw Mastodon and Ghost in concert and that was a great show!
Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world?
We are from Tucson, Arizona. It’s about an hour from the Mexico border. The music scene here is very diverse.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Not yet…we would love to get out and see the world!
Any last words for the fans?
Thanks for all the support you have given us throughout the years! We’ll keep cranking the music out!
