Discovery: Mope

Mope is the solo project of Brooklyn, New York, USA-based Rob Norris which he describes as “happy music for sad people.” His latest track is an attempt to distil the feelings of isolation and anxiety we all had to process during pandemic lockdown. It’s called Hesitations.

Hesitations has an expansive, psychedelic feel about it. There’s a sense of unease too. Rob’s vocals waver between pensive and soaring, suggesting confidence that waxes and wanes. The instrumental accompaniment is bright and textured, and comes into its own during the latter part of the track.

Fans of ’60s psychedelia will get a lot from this track, as well as ’90s alternative akin to Radiohead. Rob is certainly bringing something new to the world of rock and I can’t wait to hear more from him.
