Interview: Copperstone

I recently reviewed the track Black Clouds by Copperstone, a collaborative effort with Heroes Fall Last. I felt that it was a really interesting track and wanted to find out a little more – read our interview with Copperstone below to see how we got on!

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a track titled Black Clouds, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song?

Yes, and thank you for the review of the song. We really appreciate the kind words. Black Clouds was a really fun project and a collaboration with our friends in the band Heroes Fall Last. The song incorporates a lot of different elements that really captures the dark tones in the story of a fictitious gunslinger who battles the weight of his own conscience. This combination, along with the stellar guitar work of Shelley Seam (Heroes Fall Last) really connect and resonate with the listener.

How has the reception been so far, and where can Black Clouds be purchased?

The song has been very well received and we couldn’t be more excited about it as the whole project was a blast. We’ve seen the song covered in many blogs, across social channels, and it quickly broke 10k streams on Spotify! We encourage everyone to check it out on Spotify, Apple Music & Amazon Music, as well as the music video which is on the Heroes Fall Last Youtube Channel.

You collaborated on the track with Heroes Fall Last. How did the collaboration come about, and can we expect any more collaborations from you?

We were very fortunate to have met the crew of Heroes Fall Last during the initial onset of the Covid pandemic. This was a time when everyone was trying to figure out what to do, and we saw a lot of musicians band together, network & collaborate in order to continue progressing and creating. The friendship between our two bands was an absolute result of that and we certainly hope it leads to more in the future.

Do you have any more singles planned for release soon?

Absolutely. We have a whole back catalogue of songs in development which will be released throughout 2023 and beyond. This also includes the upcoming track titled Life’s a Joke, which was influenced by our exploration of how music intertwines within the web space. This exploration has been such a cool learning experience and honestly opened up entirely new avenues for our music.

Are there any plans to release a full-length album or EP in the near future?

We recently just released a new EP titled Reflections, and we encourage everyone to check it out on all major streaming platforms. Additionally, make sure to check out heroesfalllast.com to stay updated on their upcoming EP. If you like Black Clouds, then we’re sure you’ll dig what they’ve got coming out.

Did the pandemic hinder your work much?

The pandemic definitely hindered the ability to play live, however in that chaos came the opportunity to get creative. Not only does this mean finding the time to write a lot of material, but we also got creative with social media outlets & platforms like StageIt to continue playing live & sharing our music with our fans. This definitely helped bridge the gap between then and now where we are back to playing out live.

The track has a bluesy rock sound. What/who influences you most as artists?

We are definitely influenced by music across all genres, however we gravitate towards blues, alternative and rock, with some acoustic based styling in there as well. This is definitely reflected in the tracks we release as well as the ones to come.

You’re based in Pittsburgh. What is the music scene like in your part of the world?

Very diverse, which is fantastic. The Pittsburgh area is also very supportive of indie music with a lot of festivals & venues that welcome, promote and support local musicians, while also providing larger, easily accessibly arenas for international touring acts to perform. It is definitely a city with a great personality.

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

We wish! Hopefully in the future, however for now we’ve been focused on dates here in the US. We’ve had a blast this year playing various festivals such as Millvale Music Festival, Riverside Music, Festival & our recent performance at North American Sake Brewery in Charlottesville, VA. We’ve also got a show in Pittsburgh in early December and are looking forward to Jan ’23 where we will be recording custom vinyl records at Leesta Vall Records in Brooklyn, NY. Fans can preorder these custom vinyls from now until January 20th, 2023, and the link to do so can be found on copperstonemusic.com

Any last words for the fans?

Thank you for your support! We wouldn’t be able to do this without you and can’t wait to share more new music & tour dates with everyone!
