LA-based pop artist Lotti is bringing a new twist to the genre, as her release, Casualty, shows. It’s a pop song with a difference, having a lovely stripped-down vibe – if you missed it, I implore you to check the song out!
By Jane Howkins
You recently released a single titled Casualty. What can you tell us about the track?
Thanks for having me on here, Jane! Casualty is my first ever single as Lotti – I wrote it early last year when I was kind of dealing with my parent’s divorce. And defining/redefining my responsibility as their child. At first, I was very active in the trying to fix the relationship of my parents, but as time went on, I became exhausted and realised that I was only getting hurt from something that was outside of my power. This was when I realised that my responsibility is to myself and to protect my energy at all costs. I love my parents, but their problems are theirs. I am here for them, but I’m learning to set healthy boundaries for myself.
How has the reception to Casualty been so far, and where can it be purchased?
People have been loving Casualty! It’s lovely to hear other people of all ages relating to the lyrics of the song, talking about their own parents, or talking about cutting off toxic relationships from their lives. Casualty is out on all streaming platforms!
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
Yes, in fact, I’m releasing another single on 12/12! It will be Lotti’s second release – it’ll be entitled Did Ya Think.
Do you plan to release a full-length album or an EP anytime soon?
I’m planning on releasing an EP soon, but for now, I’m just trying to release singles! Gathering fans from all over the world with each single release!
Did the pandemic hinder your work much?
The pandemic gave me a reason to slow down and really look at who and what I want to be as an artist.
Your music is contained within the pop genre. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?
I grew up in the Philippines and I guess you could say pop and r&b ballads really influenced me growing up. I would listen to Michael Jackson, Aerosmith and Queen! My mom and grandma are also avid music fans – they listened to Mariah Carey, Diana Ross, Celine Dion and Abba! Recently, I’ve been playing The Miseducation of Ms Lauryn Hill over and over and over.
Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world?
I am based in Los Angeles! And the music scene here is quite hit or miss. Haha. Oops.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Not yet! But I would LOVE to travel to the UK and share my songs! If you’re reading this and you’ve got a place you think I could play in, shoot me an email: lottigrae@gmail.com
It’s a dream of mine to just travel the world share my songs and stories!!
What can people expect from one of your shows and why should people come and see you live?
They can expect feeling feelings! Haha so if you’ve got some feelings you think need to be let out, come out to one of my shows!!
Any last words for the fans?
If you’ve got a dream, please chase it. It doesn’t matter if the steps you’re taking are big or small. You owe it to yourself to listen to your heart and spirit. Thank you for supporting my music! If you haven’t heard of me yet, you can look up Casualty by Lotti on all the streaming platforms!
