Discovery: Mimi Pretend

Mimi Pretend, real name Miriam Nassan, is a dream pop singer songwriter based in Los Angeles, USA. She’s just released the second single from her upcoming EP Sick Eros. A tale of heartbreak, it’s called Hateful.

By Graeme Smith

Hateful is a gentle yet melancholic piece of experimental pop. The instrumentals are ethereal and airy, but Mimi’s vocals are low and mournful. It’s an emotionally rich experience – definitely one to feel along with – but also challengingly unconventional. Fans of Mazzy Star or David Lynch will approve.

Originally from Colorado, Mimi attended the California Institute of the Arts which encouraged her to think outside the box with her compositions and song writing. Mimi Pretend acts as a fairy-tale version of the real Mimi, giving her the freedom to push her sound to the furthest reaches.
