ICEBERG is a New York State, USA-based alternative pop singer songwriter who has featured on our blog a few times before. Jane originally discovered her for us last July and I’ve followed up with shares of her tracks Captor, Blood Bank and Can’t Forgive Me. All three feature on her new seven track EP, Swim.

ICEBERG’s name comes from a fascination with the combination of pureness and hardness that you get from the natural phenomenon, something that the artist sees in her song writing. Swim is seven tracks of honest lyrics and ethereal instrumentals, creating an intriguing duality.
The EP starts with its title track. There’s a moodiness to it, combined with light and airy acoustic instrumentals that instantly embodies the aforementioned duality. It’s a welcoming introduction and one that lures you to listen more. The trio of singles Can’t Forgive Me, Captor and Blood Bank come next. Together they run us through a gamut of delicate, regretful pop ballad, defiant and atmospheric acoustic folk, and heart-breaking and visceral soft rock.
10ft is a gentle, piano-led ballad that builds to a triumphant climax. It’s a highlight. Nothing At All pairs ICEBERG’s vulnerable vocals with acoustic guitar. The lyrics are wonderfully confessional and storytelling. Don’t Give a Fuck closes the EP with up-tempo instrumentals and cynical lyrics. It’s the perfect, explosive finish.
ICEBERG not only self-produced but self-released this EP and her doubts about jumping headfirst into the project comes through strongly in this EP. Yet, it’s exactly that vulnerability that makes ICEBERG’s music so captivating, and she needn’t worry. Her passion has made Swim the best version of itself that it could possibly be, and she has pulled of the feat of having the listener feeling the emotion of every note and every word.
Swim is co-produced by ICEBERG and Oscar Moose. You can give it a listen below.
