York Calling’s Editor in Chief is running the York 10k for Charity

Graeme Smith, York Calling’s Editor in Chief, will be running the York 10k in August on behalf of The Island, a mentoring charity for young people based in York.

A small children’s charity, The Island provides mentoring services for vulnerable children struggling with their mental, emotional &/or social wellbeing. Their volunteer mentors help young people to build their resilience, confidence and self-esteem so that they can take positive steps forward.

Talking about the run, Graeme said:

“I’m a big fan of The Island and what they do. Our relationship goes back years and I’ve run the 10k for the before, back in 2019. I love running, so it’s a great way I can help support them. However, I’m pretty rubbish at fundraising, so any donations will be greatly received!”

The York 10k takes place on 6 August 2023, organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All since 2009. York has been described as one of the country’s most beautiful city runs, and The York 10K offers runners the unique opportunity to race through the heart of our wonderful city.

The route starts and finishes on Knavesmire Road, close to York Racecourse. It then takes in some of the city’s most historic landmarks, including the ancient city walls, Clifford’s Tower and the minster.

You can donate to The Island via Graeme’s Just Giving Page.
