Discovery: Elliot Mikaelson

Regular readers will know that I’ve been really getting into my classical music of late, and Australian composer Elliot Mikaelson’s music is another new discovery of mine.

By Jane Howkins

Remanence is a beautiful piece of neoclassical music, played almost entirely on the piano. It’s really haunting to behold, getting stuck inside your head straight away. It sounds pretty simplistic at first, as it’s quite a minimalist piece of music, but that factor only serves to enhance the beauty of the music further. The left hand is extremely subtle, allowing the right hand to really shine through. There are also some slight backing effects played, which are faint, whilst also managing to add another pretty layer to this tune. Classical fans need to check this out!
