The Silent Era are a London-based rock band who first came to our attention around this time last year through their single Heavy Cure. Fast-forward twelve months and they’re back on these pages with their third single release. All about the difficulty telling good from evil, it’s called Heaven//Hell.
By Graeme Smith
Heaven//Hell gets right to it with punchy percussion and long, distorted notes creating a dark groove. Emotional vocals come in, delivering lyrics that dwell on our troubles discerning the intentions of others. Finally, we arrive at a soaring chorus where singer Bri Macanas’s vocals become particularly pleading.
In a delicious nod to music of a different age, Heaven//Hell comes with a b-side, a rendition of the band’s track Scorpio (Slowpio version), recorded live at Brighton Electric Studios. The live take gives the track a heavy yet intimate edge.
