New Music: Seán R Mclaughlin & The Wind-up Crows – Wishing Well

Scottish folk band Seán R Mclaughlin & The Wind-up Crows first came to our attention earlier this month through the release of their EP Ninewells, and now they’re already back with a new single.

Wishing Well sees the band take things in an indie pop rock direction without losing any of the traditional folk elements for which they are known. It’s a track about craving the old days and longing for the simple life before the Internet was ever-present in our lives. Despite its heavy subject matter, it’s an uplifting track, with an anthemic quality running right through it and a lively vocal delivery in the verse.

Seán and his band have a new album on the way, Goodnight Lad, set for release 3 May. It’s available to pre-order now via their Bandcamp page, digitally or on limited edition transparent vinyl.

Wishing Well was produced and mixed by Andy Monaghan of Frightened Rabbit and features Lewis McLaughlin (Seán’s cousin). You can give it a listen below.
