Different Day, Still The Same is a six track EP which shares the same name as Glasgow’s Each Confide‘s upcoming debut album.
By Graeme Smith
We’ve shared a couple of the synth pop duo’s singles this year, include the title track to this EP and You & I. So, we’re already kind of familiar with the Each Confide sound.
This EP brings all their recent releases together, heightening the emotion of each as a result, and telling a wider story of internal turmoil, love and loss. Chris Greig and Craig-Russell Horne, the pair that make up Each Confide, don’t do things by half when it comes to expressing themselves through music, and this EP is certain to take you on a rollercoaster.
All I See sets things off with some slow, lingering notes before a steady indie pop groove sets in. You’ll be moving along to it before the striking vocals arrive. They make great use of autotune to enhance, rather than take away, from the passion of them, and give us a good impression of the Each Confide sound. It’s a strong start.
Hold Back ups the tempo with a bright moment rich with synths, electronic drums and handclaps. I slows things down without losing any of the vibrant instrumental textures before the aforementioned You & I proves to be a highlight with its funky electronica and relatable lyrics.
What We’ve Started provides the EP’s most urgent and boundary-pushing moment before title track Different Day, Still The Same closes the EP with a rich and dreamy final chapter.
Before listening to this EP, I was a fan of Each Confide. Now, I’m an even bigger fan. The pair create music that is simply irresistible and this six track collection hangs together so well.
The album Different Day, Still The Same is set for release later this year, with a launch party scheduled for 16 August at The Old Hairdressers in Glasgow.
The EP is out now and you can check it out below.
