Today is World Mental Health Day and it’s prompted Ooberfuse and Abdel Tchatchet to release a new track and video, Show Me Love.
By Graeme Smith
There are many things that can trigger poor mental health. What Show Me Love focusses on is the experience of being a refugee. It aims to cut through the debate around welcoming refugees, which too often focusses on economics, to highlight the human cost inflicted on those seeking refuge.
It’s a story spoken from personal experience. Abdel sought refuge in the UK from his homeland of Cameroon, and it was in a music workshop in St. Albans that he met Ooberfuse and their collaboration was born. As well as creating music, he is a mental health therapist.
It all adds up to a sound premise for a track, but how’s the music? Show Me Love is an electronic pop number that blends melancholy and brightness beautifully. Abel shares vocals with Hal St. John and Cherrie Anderson of Ooberfuse, with the latter taking on the first verse. She introduces things soulfully, and the three vocal textures work wonderfully against a gentle, folksy, undefinable instrumental.
Its vibrant video is out now and you can give it a watch below.
