Andrew Moore and Hooch go all out with debut album, Artists of the Moon.
By Graeme Smith
Led by its eponymous singer songwriter, Andrew Moore and Hooch are an Americana band consisting of Andrew Moore, Jordan Robson, Gabe Crockett, Logan Turner and Matthew Skaggs. They’re appearing on our blog for the first time with debut album, Artists of the Moon.
As well as getting on with their day jobs, the band have been passionately working on their debut for fourteen months. They’ve already caught some attention for their music, having been nominated for four Josie Awards and two Hollywood Independent Music Awards. This album may well be the springboard they need to take on performing full-time.
You can certainly now count me as one of their fans. Artists of the Moon is a thoughtful collection that brings together the best of Americana, blues, pop and rock in a way that’s lively and engaging. The album kicks off with the slow-building intro of Another Ride With You. It delights with its funky sax and emotional vocals. There’s a timelessness about it, yet it also sounds fresh.
At fifteen tracks and over one hour long, the band have certainly packed a lot into their debut. It’s an album which you have to make time for, but rewards you for it. Each new track brings something new to proceedings, all while staying sonically cohesive and distinctively theirs.
Highlights include the stirring, string-infused Tyrant, the vibrant, biting and brassy Freedom, jazzy, affirming title track Artists of the Moon, moody midpoint Train Wreck, and the sultry and bluesy Come Home. We’ll Dance gives us the album’s bounciest moment before it’s rounded off by a stripped-back reprise of Tyrant.
Andrew Moore and Hooch have promised that their second album is already ready to go. I can’t wait to hear it!
