Turbulent times and turbulent love shape Bryce Fox’s new EP

Nashville, USA’s Bryce Fox celebrates duality and metamorphosis with new EP, The Butterfly.

By Graeme Smith

The Butterfly is the second EP that we’re sharing from Bryce. His music previously featured on these pages earlier this year through the personal, metaphysical five track collection, The Bomb.

The Bomb was an exploration of becoming a new father in turbulent times, and the experience of fatherhood also weighs heavy on his latest EP. It’s an experience that changes as the child grows and we get an insight into how things are going for Bryce and family.

Also like The Bomb, The Butterfly is a tale that unfolds over five tracks, starting with the delicate yet powerful Butterfly. Bryce’s soulful vocals sing about finding home and a less-than-straightforward path to romance. Its soaring chorus proves an early highlight, bringing plenty of pop rock energy.

Other People provides us with an intimate, soul-searching moment while Shadows is a dark and groovy pop centrepiece. Drip brings with it a nice contrast between a soulful, stripped-back first verse and textured, dance-inducing beat. Sense of Humor closes the EP in acoustic style. It’s a slow-burning number that ends passionately and proves another highlight.

There’s no-one doing pop like Bryce Fox is. He puts so much of himself into his music and touches on topics that are often overlooked in the genre. His lyrics have got plenty to say while his compositions bring groove and emotion. With both The Bomb and The Butterfly contributing to a larger project set for release next year, the future is bright from Bryce.

The Butterfly was produced by Aaron Chafin and mixed by Mark Needham. It’s out now and you can give it a listen below.
