The Easter Parade returns with intimate classic

Real name Matt Steven, The Easter Parade featured once before on this blog when Jane interviewed him about his debut single, Sing Our Kids to Sleep. Now the Midlands-based artist is back with the second single from his upcoming first EP, Raindrops on the Lens,

By Graeme Smith

Yesterday’s Grace was inspired by the Sergio Leone film Once Upon a Time in America and a visit to New York. Its story unfold gently and poetically through Matt’s soulful and intimate style which draws influence from the likes of Randy Newman, Tom Waits and Nick Cave.

As we work our way through the narrative of the first verse, the instrumental grows to be cinematic, finally arriving at a memorable and stirring chorus. It all adds up to a song that’s devastating and life-affirming in equal measure, especially once the full instrumental arrangement kicks in. It’s got the feel of a classic about it.

The track was mostly recorded at Matt’s recording studio, Indigo Scala, in Northampton with the exception of the piano which was recorded in Paris, France. It features a string arrangement by Joseph O’Keefe, was mixed by Daryll McFayden, and mastered by Pete Maher.

Yesterday’s Grace is out now and you can give it a listen below.
