Discovery: Glass Frogs show Leeds’ funky side in new single

There’s a lot going on in the Leeds music scene at the moment, and now Glass Frogs have joined the cavalcade of acts based there that have got my attention.

By Graeme Smith

Their sound combines pop with funk and R&B to create something deliciously groovy, as exemplified by their single, Unbalanced. Lively percussion is paired with dreamy guitar during a slow-burning intro before expressive vocals come in. They speak of the emotional turbulence of dealing with our mental health before providing some catharsis in a chanting crescendo.

Glass Frogs combine the classic sound of Sly & The Family Stone or Prince with a modern edge. They’re showing us a different side of the Yorkshire music scene and I’m here for it.

Unbalanced is out now and via Blue Monday. You can give it a listen below.
