In June 2024, we featured the team up between rapper Alyssa Jane and producer SV (Sean Veligor). It was our first taste of the latter’s sound.

SV loves a collaboration, it seems, and his latest album, Past Partial, sees him join forces with Antonia Marquee, JaMichael and Kevon Scott for seven punchy tracks. It’s a collection that doesn’t waste a note, racing from captivating opener Now You Wish You Would to enveloping closer Target Atmos in just over seventeen minutes.
That’s not to say you don’t get plenty of bang for your proverbial buck in Past Partial. Each track is dense, rich in production and emotion, and beautifully varied. Antonia provides some soulful and compelling vocals while JaMichael’s flute and Kevon Scott’s sax bring some pleasing instrumental textures. It all unfolds over a backdrop of boom bap, neo-soul, alternative R&B, and much more.
The Answer proves to be a moody mid-album highlight, soaking in a sense of regret that speaks to the album’s title which refers to a time in one’s past that was never fully completed. Honourable mention, too, to All That which is delightfully percussive and boundary pushing.
Though it’s difficult to define genre-wise, one thing that is certain is that Part Partial is a collection for lovers of the lo-fi and the chill (with a bit of nuance.)
Past Partial is out now and you can give it a listen below.
