Pianist Mark Springer joins forces with the Sacconi String Quartet and British pop icon, Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant, for new double album, Sleep of Reason.
By Graeme Smith
With his new album, the Oxford-based Mark Springer is breathing new life into the often stuffy genre of classical music. The addition of Tennant’s poetry gives us another dimension to his stirring and provoking instrumental arrangements across thirteen tracks.
Thematically, the album explores the ‘devilment’ of 21st century culture, grappling with big egos, social media and division
Accompanying the album release is a series of etchings by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya as well as solo piano and string quartet versions of the compositions.
Sleep of Reason is out now via Sub Rosa and The Exit Label, available to buy as a digital album, on CD or on vinyl via Bandcamp. You can give it a listen below.
