In March 2025, EEVAH sold out their tour. Tracks of theirs have made it onto the playlist of BBC Radio 1, 6Music and Amazing Radio. So, it’s with great anticipation that we await the release of their new EP, I Didn’t See It Coming.
By Graeme Smith
I Didn’t See It Coming is a collection rich with emotion and memorable melodies. It’s soft rock at its finest led by some strikingly beautiful vocals that are supported by haunting, echoing instrumentals.
I Still Think of You bristles with heartache and longing, building to a big finish that proves an early highlight. The EP’s lead single has earned airplay from 6Music’s Chris Hawkins
Elsewhere, Lullaby is suitably dreamy and things end equal parts pleading and melancholic thanks to If It Ain’t You (spun by Radio 1’s Jess Iszatt and Amazing Radio) and bonus track, The Girl In My Head.
With a sound reminiscent of The Japanese Breakfast and London Grammar, Halifax-based EEVAH are proving a hit on the UK scene. A show at Trades Club in Hebden Bridge will launch the EP, and potentially launch a lot more when considering the amount of potential the band have.
Comprised of Nicole Hope Smith (vocals, bass), Fay Clayton (drums), and guitarist Richard McNamara, EEVAH are the latest promising act to come out of Yorkshire. If the name Richard McNamara sounds familiar, you might associate it with the band Embrace for whom he played guitar.
“For such a long time in EEVAH, I guess I’ve kind of shrunk away from the whole Embrace connection, mainly because I want to do something that’s uniquely EEVAH,” McNamara explains. “Then one evening I was skipping through YouTube when I came across an interview with Birdy where she said that Ryan Tedder, her producer and co-writer, had suggested approaching the guitar part on their track Wings a bit like Gravity by Embrace. Then two videos later, I caught a Holly Humberstone track that was kinda coming from the same ‘Embrace-y’ place, at least beat wise, and it just hit me – if anyone’s allowed to sound like Embrace, it’s me.”
I Didn’t See It Coming is set for release 22 May 2025. You can pre-save it here.
