A couple of years ago, I used to do a regular round-up of my favourite songs of the month. This time the review series is back with a brand new title – Monthly Favourites Remastered. In this article, you can expect a number of songs from artists from across the genre scope, so you should be able to find something that suits your music taste. Go Like This – I Do
First up is Cork indie rock and rollers Go Like This, with their amazing new song I Do. It’s quite catchy yet it still retains a sense of palpable attitude, making a bold, romantic statement from a lyrical perspective. The verses are crisp with a beat that just doesn’t stop, as the vocals soar in perfect style over the top. The choruses raise the tempo and noise a little, creating a singalong quality that is hard to resist (at least, for this reviewer!) It’s clear that I Do is single material as it’s full of hooks, so here’s hoping we hear more from Go Like This soon!

Katie Noir – I Prefer Jason
Katie Noir takes things in a completely different direction with I Prefer Jason, a bubbly r&b-infused pop song that is catchy as all hell. The vocals are a mixture between singing and rapping at times, but it all works really well, seeing Katie sing in a sultry manner over the beat. I Prefer Jason is a little different from your usual pop song though, featuring trailing piano lines and a biting sense of lyricism, making for one really addictive piece of music. I simply cannot stop listening to I Prefer Jason – hopefully, you’ll feel the same way!

Catlea – Someone’s Got To
Someone’s Got To sees London singer-songwriter Catlea deliver a raw and transformative statement to the world, all through the form of a piece of glorious folk-pop music. It’s clear that the lyrics are extremely personal, showing a vulnerable side to Catlea that I absolutely love – it really feels like she’s in the room with you. The main verse melody is addictive, seeing the vocals follow the acoustic guitar in a pretty way, building up towards an ever more beautiful chorus. It’s truly great to hear Catlea singing “If you won’t love me then I will, I’ll be much better than I was before”, finally accepting herself for who she is.

Ruut – Unbeatable
Ruut may be an emerging artist, but new release Unbeatable shows that she’s clearly ready to hit the music industry where it hurts. It’s an empowering piece of indie-pop music, with an unmistakable sense of emotion and optimism, worn almost as a badge of honour for Ruut. The vocals soar and the hooks command attention from the very start of the track, demanding all the energy in the room. Unbeatable is that true indie-pop song with a difference, having an anthemic quality that hints at Ruut’s possible future success.
