Pink Oyster, a new project from Manchester-based gothic Americana artist Ali Matthews, has caught my attention through her dark and absorbing new track Cheekbone Queen.

Cheekbone Queen tells the story of inter-generational pain, distorted beauty standards and expectations of femininity. It’s brought to life through Ali’s storytelling lyrics, told expressively against a stripped-back backdrop of guitar and piano.
Born in the States, Ali emigrated to the UK and joined the Manchester creative scene. With a history of working as a session musician, Pink Oyster marks her first venture into solo recording. I, for one, am glad she’s got the project out there. Cheekbone Queen is a very special track. You can check it out below.
