Interview: Blueprint Tokyo

Blueprint Tokyo are an amazing new indie band on the scene – I recently discovered their track Say Anything and thought it deserved to be shared with the masses. I wanted to find out more about the band – read our interview below to see how I got on!

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a track titled Say Anything, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song and what does the title stand for?

The song is about youth and nostalgia. On the surface, it’s about growing up, watching scary movies with friends and the adventures of being young. Most of us made a lot of bad or at least poor decisions during youth. It’s about understanding those and growing from them.

How has the reception been so far, and where can Say Anything be purchased?

Say Anything is available on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube and virtually everywhere else you can get music. Our website has a lot of links directly to the single, our upcoming EP and the rest of our music: blueprinttokyo.com

Do you have any more singles planned for release soon?

We’ll be releasing our EP at the end of October and will likely have one more single from the EP before the end of the year.

Your debut EP, Cinema Sounds, is being released very soon! Are you excited? What can you tell us about the EP?

We’re excited about the EP because it’s a whole new set of songs that we’re excited to share. It’s a sequel to our prior EP A Whole New Life and follows some of the same threads, but we think we’ve continued to grow and shift our message and sounds.

Are there any plans to release a full length album afterwards?

We’ve discussed the idea of a full-length album at some point, but we really prefer to work in singles and EPs. It’s a lot easier to get ideas out.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

The band was formed as a result of the pandemic, initially working remotely before we got back together. So honestly, it really hasn’t hindered us much. Though if not for the pandemic we would likely have gotten together a little sooner though.

Your music is placed firmly within the indie genre. What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?

Our influences are pretty diverse. We love a lot of different bands. Certainly 80s music plays a bit part in our taste, but we also love modern rock and pop music. As long as there is a good melody and a great hook – that’s really the big driver for us.

You’re based in Oklahoma City. What is the music scene like in your part of the world?

Our scene is very similar to everyone’s scene. It has its ups and downs. There’s a healthy dose of bands that cover everything from metal to country to Southern rock and everything in-between. Oklahoma City is surprisingly large and it’s sometimes a challenge to find your audience and get everyone motivated when the city is spread over such a large geographic area.

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

We don’t but we would love to play in the UK.

Any last words for the fans?

We appreciate the love and support of fans around the world and love being in this moment where people can discover our music. It’s a great time to be a fan!
