Wonderland opens up with modern pop classic In Too Deep, which has all the hallmarks of a mainstream banger. The beat melds well with the synths and bass, making tapping your feet along in time an irresistible prospect. Frannie has a wonderful voice – and one that leads its way through this tune in style, especially when she repeats the title refrain. The breakdown towards the end makes for a nice change in pace, adding more variety to the track.
Older starts out a little slower – whilst it’s more of a ballad, it’s still a pop song through and through. Frannie takes her vocals to a lower pitch here, showing how wide her range is. The subtle backing vocals help to elevate the lead vocals to a higher level, as they drift through this song. The instrumentation is simpler than on the previous tune, but the percussion used here sounds really interesting as a whole.
Lose You mixes elements of the previous two tracks together, starting out as a more mid-tempo pop song, before the chorus kicks in. You can really feel the emotion in Frannie’s vocals as she sings the lyrics on this track, showing just how genuine she is. The rhythm is used in an impressive way, with Frannie’s vocal notes following it at times, having an altogether impressive flow.
Too Young To Be This Sad adds some 80s pop elements into the mix, particularly in the way the synths are used on the chorus. It’s quite a melancholy sounding tune, in terms of both the lyrics and the music, but this is by no means a bad thing! The synths have a really cool feeling, oozing away underneath the surface of this killer tune, alongside the bass and drums. The backing vocals add more of a modern flavour to the song, mixing together the best of both worlds.
Title track Wonderland is also the final song on the EP, starting out slowly, seeing some pretty piano chords play alongside the rest of the instrumentation. The chorus introduces a fantastic synth melody, adding an anthemic sound to the song that makes you want to get up and dancing straight away. On this track, Frannie mixes together elements of both modern and 80s pop, making for a fantastic package overall.
If you’re into your pop music, then Wonderland is the perfect EP for you. Frannie B is obviously very talented and she has an amazingly creative imagination, as the tracks here show. It’s also wonderfully produced, making for a joyous listening experience.
