Regular readers will know I’ve made no attempt to cover up my admiration for Californian rock singer songwriter June Swoon, real name Juli Lydell. I’ve featured her music countless times, and had her on both of our podcasts, Going Underground and The 5 Albums You’ll Hear In Heaven. So, I was dead excited when I discovered she had a new track out. It’s called Water Baby.
By Graeme Smith
Water Baby sees Juli move into a psychedelic rock direction. It’s a track that wouldn’t be out of place in a ’60s freak out, with its groovy, looping riff and Juli’s gamut of vocal delivery styles. The lyrics too are full of imaginative imagery and anarchic indignation. It might just be her best track yet.
It’s the first release from her upcoming second studio album A House With Windows Open. You can give Water Baby a listen below.
