James Merlin is a York-based artist who has amazingly just hit my radar. His latest track, recorded at Young Thug Studios, is an alternative rock story of the dangers of getting lost in fantasy. It’s called Fairytale Life.

The track opens with a gentle acoustic guitar riff over which James’s charismatic vocals are poured. As the track progresses, the instrumentals ramp up, as does the drama of the lyrical story, where the protagonist’s idyllic life slowly unravels.
James moved to York in 2021, and you may have seen him perform as part of The Beatles tribute act, The Threetles. James’s music certainly as a similar vibe to that of those famous Liverpudlians. You can check out Fairytale Life below.
