Interview: In Theaters Friday

In Theaters Friday are a new rock band based out of Las Vegas, bringing their own brand of modern rock to the masses with latest release, Punk Song. It’s a banger of a tune, and one you really ought to check out if you haven’t already – a full stream can also be found at the end of this interview.

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a single titled Punk Song. What can you tell us about the track?

Hello, our latest track, Punk Song, is a tune written by Arnold Silva, our lead singer, while he was isolated due to COVID. About the track he said, “It’s mostly about my experience with corporations laying off employees and watching them clear out their lockers while they hold back tears”. He brought it to the rest of band and it came together pretty quickly and exemplifies our energy, as well as who we are as a band, very well.

How has the reception to Punk Song been so far, and where can the song be purchased?

So far, the reception has been great! We’ve gotten accolades from people who don’t even like that genre of music. It’s currently our most streamed song.

The song is available on all major streaming platforms and can be purchased on our website intheatersfriday.com

Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?

Yeah, we released the song Fanboys around the same time as Punk Song. Additionally, we’ve got an EP with 4 additional songs that will be released in the very near future. We are also in the process of recording some more material. Hopefully, we’ll get those out quickly as well.

Do you plan to release an EP or an album anytime soon?

Our forthcoming EP, Status Quo Radio, should be coming soon!

Have you got anything exciting coming up this year that you’d like to tell us about?

We will be doing a bit of touring here on the west coast, as well as producing more material. We can’t wait to share our music and art with more ears.

Your music has a fast, punky sound. What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?

Where to begin…. The list is long, and we have a plethora of influences, from indie rock stallions like The Strokes, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, to more punk rock bands such as Social Distortion, The Clash, Buzzcocks, Green Day. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters – the Chili Peppers are also favorites. We also LOVE oldies from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. We like to cover old tunes from past and make them our own.

Some bands we’re currently listening to include White Reaper, The Growlers, Inhaler, Vacations, Royal Blood and Locksley, to name a few.

You’re based in Las Vegas. What is the music scene like in your part of the world?

We’re in the Entertainment Capital of the World! It certainly has its upsides but there are challenges too. The Las Vegas Strip tends to stick with safer, more established acts there is a vibrant and eclectic art scene. The music scene here is pretty diverse depending on where you go. There are a lot of great musicians out here just waiting to be recognised!

What do you think is the hardest aspect of the music industry as a musician right now?

The hardest part of being a musician today would be getting noticed in the endless sea of great artists that are out today. Putting your material online is easy, getting noticed is like finding a winning lottery ticket.

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

Man, that would be rad, but unfortunately, we don’t have any shows outside the US at the moment.

Any last words for the fans?

We just want to say, “Big thank you to anyone who has listened to or downloaded our music or saved it on their phones. It really does mean the world to us.”
