Discovery: Hunter

Hunter is a Chicago, USA-based indie pop singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer who has just caught my attention thanks to his track exploring the grief of past traumas. It’s called I’ve Been Looking.

I’ve Been Looking was composed in short spurts, starting in 2019 and developing alongside the pandemic over the past couple of years. The writing process, and the crisis as a backdrop, have influenced how the track has been composed, meaning it feels quite unconventional. Primarily, it’s melancholic acoustic pop with electronic overtones, but the track goes through movements. We get hyperpop moments, touches of 1975-esque pop rock, and a cinematic, cathartic climax.

Hunter is an exciting prospect in the alternative pop scene and I can’t wait to hear what he does next. You can check out I’ve Been Looking below.
