OSP are a Reading-based hip hop collective who have featured on these pages a few times now. I first discovered them for the blog in March last year through their video Fill It Up, and followed that with shares of Iyah and Breathe (Deeology remix) later in the year. Their latest release is a collection of remixes of their track Tun Up.

The original version of Tun Up was released at the beginning of the year, and this latest EP contains four remixes by Djtrojanuk, MVMMOTH, Electrohed and Club Mango. Collectively they bring a diverse range of genres including drum and bass, reggaeton and dancehall.
The EP opens with the lively, percussive take on the track by Djtrojanuk. It beautifully amplifies the positivity of the track’s lyrics. MVMMOTH’s remix comes next, bringing with it a gentler, more ambient vibe, and a hyperpop groove. Electrohed gives the track a heavy electronic reggae twist before Club Mango closes the collection with a rich pop and reaggeton mix that feels very tuned into the zeitgeist.
With this remix collection, OSP’s collaborators have taken what is a banger of a track and given it some awesome new life. It goes to show that a great song works well no matter how it’s cut and presented, and no matter what, it’s uplifting message shines through.
OSP are comprised of Esa Kwame, J Blackz, Silqe and Subject. They’ve been putting out music since 2014, brought together by the mantra of “only speak positive”. They release their music with the support of Riser, and Arts Council England funded platform for new music and artists created by Reading-based music charity Readipop. They continue to put out exciting alternative rap and hip hop that is distinctive from the crowd, and I’m excited to see what else we’ve got in store from them.
