London-based indie rock band Echo Hotel first featured on this blog in 2021 thanks to their experimental track Hangers On. Now they’re back on these pages with new, dreamier sound. It’s called Yesterday’s News.
By Graeme Smith
Yesterday’s News opens slow and laidback, bringing to mind a lazy, melancholic day. Soulful vocals come in, telling a poetic story. The whole thing has a sense of nostalgia about it – it’s almost crooner-esque. Lyrically, it’s inspired by Phillip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, specifically its concept of “kipple” or “useless junk or clutter” that proliferates.
The track is a thoughtful and welcome return to our blog for Echo Hotel. I can’t wait to hear more from them!
