New Music: The Shrubs – Maybe Today

The Shrubs are a Houston, USA-based psychedelic rock band that first came to our attention in April this year. On sharing their track Brilliance, I called it “rock, but not as we know it”, so I was intrigued to hear some more of their music. Their latest is called Maybe Today.

By Graeme Smith

A track that took a long time to perfect, The Shrubs can be happy with the result that is Maybe Today. Rumbling indie rock sets the early pace, paired with ethereal vocals. The track builds with unexpected keys and a touch of the eerie. Wistful lyrics create the emotional palette before that track ends big. It’s another unconventional wonder from a band that demands attention.

Maybe Today was written by Josh and Miguel Williams, with Miguel and Sophie providing the vocals. Drums are by Josh, guitars and keys by Miguell and strings provided by Sara Martinez and Vera Martinez Tovar. You can give it a listen below.
