Matt Mcknzi is a Dallas, USA-based alternative RnB, soul and hip hop singer, songwriter and producer who has just come to my attention thanks to his new mythology and nostalgia-infused single. It’s called Atlas.

Opening with some eerie chords, Atlas is a track that instantly feels distinctive from a lot else out there. Matt’s soulful vocals come in, dripping over a percussive lo-fi hip hop rhythm. It’s wonderfully chill, but there is a storminess to its lyrics. They’re full of introspection and defiance. Matt is some songwriter – combining literary references and relatable emotion to great effect. I’m so glad to have discovered his music and will be keeping my ear to the ground for more of it.
