New Zealand-born and Los Angeles, USA-based artist Eden Iris has appeared on this blog before, but not since 2021 when I ran the rule over her profound track Death Is A Teacher. Now she’s back on these pages with a new one that will transport you to a lonely corner of southern California. It’s called Sunshine Motel.
By Graeme Smith
Eden’s latest is a quiet and simmering folk rock number brought to life through her characterful vocals and detailed and poetic song writing. Full of introspection, the quiet motel in which it’s set reflects the protagonist’s frame of mind, and a pleading and passionate chorus proves to be a memorable highlight.
Sunshine Motel was co-produced by Eden Iris and Ben King. It was recorded partially in Los Angeles, USA and Auckland, New Zealand, and features Tom Broome on drums, Phoebe Silva on violin, David Landau on cello and Ben King on electric guitar. The string arrangement is by Richard Collins.
You can give the track a listen below.
