Sarah Rose is a Winchester-based artist who featured a couple of times on this blog last year, thanks to her dreamy single Heaven Sent and her passionate track Boy’s Don’t Cry. The latter was included in Jane’s Female Voices round up in June.

We’re used to hearing the lighter side of Sarah’s sound, but Take to the Grave showcases something a little darker. It touches on themes such as abusive relationships and violence towards women, meditating on them through lyrics that are rich in storytelling, and a gloomy yet vibrant folk-pop instrumental. Sarah’s vocals are, as always, the star of the show; they’re beautifully compelling as they tell their tale that ends with a macabre twist.
Take to the Grave was co-written by Sarah and Tim Prottey-Jones. You can give it a listen to it below.
