Sarah Meyz is an alt pop singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who started her musical journey by taking up the harmonica at age eleven. Her new EP, Things That They Don’t Know, features three songs, each named after a letter of the alphabet and the initial of someone who provoked negative emotions in her.

F gets things going in a delicate and driving way thanks to a slow-burning arrangement that gives plenty of space to the emotion and storytelling of Sarah’s lyrics. They talk of the weariness created by dealing with politicking in professional environments before providing catharsis during a soaring, biting chorus.

J strips things back for a delicate acoustic moment that speaks about the feeling of disappointment. There’s a dreamy melancholy about it, with Sarah’s vocal taking on a profound soulfulness.

S closes the EP with a meditation on frustration. Unlike the other two tracks, the object of Sarah’s ire is herself as she dwells on how she’s constantly seeking the novel. There’s an electronic moodiness about its instrumental and a world-weariness about the vocal.

Sarah’s EP is a short collection, but she packs a lot into it. The autobiographical detail she’s included makes the emotion of its three distinct tracks feel relatable, and it’s masterfully delivered by Sarah’s voice and instrumental performance. It’s a thing of beauty.

Things That They Don’t Know was produced at Sarah’s home studio where she played and recorded all the instruments. It’s out now and you can give it a listen below.
