The inimitable Jeán et Joie are becoming fast favourites on our pages. Their latest single sees them take on a Christmas classic.
By Graeme Smith
Led by artist and songwriter Grey Jeán, Jeán et Joie has featured on this blog twice before.
Their latest releases sees them take on Virgin Mary Had One Son, a traditional holiday song perhaps most notably covered by Joan Baez at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival on her way to stardom. Jeán et Joie’s version gives us atmospheric guitar and a delicate style of storytelling. Grey’s vocal simply shines, perfectly suiting its folksy style.
Jeán et Joie’s upcoming EP, Bramble, is set for release in mid-2025.
Virgin Mary Had One Son is out now and you give it a listen below.
