London-based singer songwriter Will Knox first appeared on this blog last autumn thanks to his healing story Instant Coffee, so I was glad when I saw he had a new track and video out.
By Graeme Smith
Growing Pains is at once a story of being a child and being a father, and it’s told, as with Instant Coffee, though some relatable and astute lyrics. Will co-wrote the track with Jesse Ruben, a former college roommate, and it’s clear the pair work well together.
Musically, we get some raw and inviting acoustic folk, production comes from Ian Grimble who nails the sentiment that less is more with its arrangement.
The video leans into the track’s sense of nostalgia, giving the impression of home videos, and enriching the track’s narrative. Together they make a formidable package.
Growing Pains is the title track from Will’s latest EP, which is also out now. You can give the single a listen below.
