We all deal with tragedy in different ways. For York’s own J.J. Chamberlain, it was to pen a mental health anthem called Thoughts.
By Graeme Smith
J.J.’s music first featured on this blog earlier this year, when I discovered it for us through his track Eyeballs – a story of grief, loss and ’90s alternative rock. Thoughts continues the trend while turning its attention to the loss of a close friend and bandmate, Lanfranco Gaglione. There is, of course, a sense of melancholy about the track, but also an uplifting sound. It’s a track for catharsis, not wallowing, and hopes to inspire those struggling to share how they are feeling.
Like Eyeballs, drums once again come from Takashi Takemura, recorded all the way in Atlanta, USA. The track was mastered by Nico Secretin in Belgium.
Thoughts is out now and you can give it a listen below.
