The Start of Something Beautiful is the eclectic second album release from New York singer songwriter Ben Goldsmith.
By Graeme Smith
Drawing influence from legends such as Ray Charles, Sam Fender and Led Zeppelin, Ben’s new album is quite the collection. With it, he set out to showcase his genre versatility and I have to say it’s mission accomplished. Collaborating with a number of industry heavyweights, including Rick Nowels, Alex Hope, and Peter Finn, we get the full range of what Ben, still in his teens, has to offer.
Our first taste is timeless, piano-led ballad Crazy which swaps a stripped back intro for a blues pop groove that gets the listener moving. The standout element is Ben’s vocals – strong, soulful and passionate, they are simply flawless. Love Again flips the script with a lively pop rock number and we find ourselves firmly on the album’s genre rollercoaster.
Graduate is Ben at his most anthemic, while I Miss NYC and Trying provide some immediate contrast, taking the form of acoustic folk ballads. Wish We Never Met brings a rock edge. Look On and Easy are soulful and rich with narrative. Album closer and title track The Start of Something Beautiful closes the album with a hopeful, warm and slow-burning number that wouldn’t be out of place in a musical.
Ben has put his stamp of every track of The Start of Something Beautiful. He writes, sings, plays, produces and was involved in every element of the album, showing his multitude of talents, ear for a pop tune, and passion for making music. He truly has everything he needs to make it big in the world of pop.
The Start of Something Beautiful is set for release Friday 13 September 2024. You can pre-save it here.
Ben will be launching the album in London on 17 September, giving a chance for UK fans to hear it live. He then heads to the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany on the 20th.
