Let’s Get This Party Started #4 – Work Out Music

Something I’ve noticed when going to my local gym is that the music usually played in such establishments tends to be largely based in the dance and dance-pop genres, likely because the fast pace of the music being perfect for working out to. However, my gym tends to just play the same old songs over and over again, which can get boring pretty quickly! Instead, I decided to delve deeper into the EDM scene to create my own small playlist of songs that are perfect for exercising too – check out the full Spotify playlist at the end if you like what you hear here!

San Sebastian – Again and Again

First up we have Swedish idol favourite San Sebastian, introducing his banging tune Again and Again to these pages. The track certainly fits within the EDM/dance-pop scenes, but it’s also remarkably funky, adding a retro sound into the mix. The beat provides an audible onslaught that will have you singing along in no time, whereas a mass of synths and keyboard notes swirl around in the background, alongside a groovy bassline. Sebastian’s vocals are incredible here too, really diving deep underneath your skin, making for a perfect song to listen to at the gym.

Rosie Belvie – Survive

Rosie Belvie’s song Survive also has a similar sound to San Sebastian’s, although it’s great to see more female songwriters and vocalists taking part in the scene. I’ve never been a massive fan of autotune, but it’s clearly used here for stylistic reasons, and Rosie doesn’t rely on it all the time, providing she can sing on her own two feet. The production quality is to die for, sounding fresh and fierce throughout, building the music up slowly into a hair-raising epiphany on several occasions within this killer tune. Just try and stop that infectious beat getting inside your head!

Gade System & Teotek –  Incessant Fluorescent (Gade System Remix)

As you might have guessed from the title of this track, Incessant Fluorescent (Gade System Remix) is actually a remix of the original bassline track created by Teotek, seeing Gade System turn the tune on its head! It’s one of the fastest pieces of music I’ve heard in a long time (regardless of genre), making for a full frontal assault on the senses that will keep you coming back for more. There’s so much going on here that it’ll take a few listens to fully appreciate everything, but I can assure you that the fast tempo and cool basslines are perfect for exercising to!

The Infinity Process – Embrace the Storm

The Infinity Process are a bit of a unique proposition compared to the other acts on this list, as they actually play rock and roll music, instead of EDM. However, I still felt their song Embrace the Storm belonged here – it’s pretty heavy but the beat is quite fast, with the catchy hooks sure to get stuck in your head on the very first listen! The production has a nice raw quality, as the pretty vocals soar over the top, mixing well together. If you’re a headbanger searching for a banging new band to listen to when exercising, The Infinity Process could be just right for you!
