With all the business of the Christmas holiday season, it’s been a while since I did one of my Monthly Favourites reviews for you all. This month, I have just three songs for you, but each track is a real killer, well worth a listen as you while away your Friday afternoon at the office. As always, there’s a full playlist for you to check out at the bottom – keep your eyes peeled for a longer review in February!

Shobsy – Champagne
Shobsy is a brand new artist to these pages, but if Champagne is anything to go by, we’ll surely be sharing more from the young artist in the near future! It’s quite a poppy song, but it also includes moments of funk, electronica and modern soul, seeing Shobsy mix these genres together with ease. His vocals are a real stand-out point here, raising up to some high heights throughout the track. The synths are awesome too, with numerous synth melodies tailing off in all directions, making you want to listen to the tune again and again!

LAB RAT – Drunk
Next up we have an amazing piece of work from LAB RAT – an Australian hip-hop star who also includes moments of grunge and alternative rock in his music, as well as the typical rap vibes you’d expect from such a song. It really makes for a cool mix of sounds, adding a nice edge to the track. The verses are a little more typical of the hip-hop scene, before the heavier choruses kick in, alongside the huge guitar chords. I’m not normally a big fan of autotune either, but it actually works pretty well on the vocals here, making this another must-listen tune from me!

The Rolling People – Reign
Finally, we have the song Reign by The Rolling People, a band from Stockport sure to set the UK on fire with their anthemic indie rock tunes! Reign is an anthemic banger, showing exactly why this band has become so beloved in this country so far. It’s pretty heavy at times for an indie rock song, but it’s also pretty melodic, bridging the gap between the different rock and roll styles. The guitars are used in some cool ways here, with little spidery guitar lines breaking off every so often to really draw you in – find Reign below and see what you think!
