Chris Bullinger completes his deeply personal double album

Double albums are like buses – you wait ages for one and then several come at once. Having run the rule over Mighty Horse’s Road Movie Dream yesterday, now it’s time to share the second part of Chris Bullinger‘s ambitious effort, Waitin’ To Be Seen.

By Graeme Smith

Part one of the album was released in 2024 and part two continues its conceptual story of love, resilience and self-discovery. When I reviewed Waitin’ To Be Seen last year, I called its lyrics “well-observed” and suggested it was one for “lovers of classic rock and country.” How does part two compare?

It starts in lively folk style with the expressive Crawlin’ My Way Back To You and we are at once reintroduced to Chris’s own brand of country. The vocals are, once again, the star of the show, as are the storytelling lyrics.

From there we get ten more tracks that range from the slow and intimate (Meet You Down the Line, Salvation As I Know It, Remember Me) to the cantering and bluesy (Better Half, Through the Dark, Lazy Green Dream). Shine provides a gruff and timeless highlight while To Glow captivates with its delicateness. Where We Were is smoulders philosophically over seven and half minutes before Offerin’ Acceptance closes the album in lingering style.

With this second part of his double album, Chris Bullinger completes his deeply personal story. Together, the two parts make quite a journey, but certainly one worth embarking on.
