Discovery: emerging pop artist Rina releases debut album

Up-and-coming pop artist Rina drops exciting debut album, Dance Like Fire.

By Graeme Smith

Rina has been interested in music since the age of five. Her first live show proved the spark and performances in school concerts helped her hone her craft. That’s all now built up to her debut album, released earlier this month.

Opening with its title track, we are at once absorbed into the Sydney, Australia-based artist’s brand of pop. It combines a captivating rhythm with emotional, breathy vocals. It feels familiar yet unique, giving us plenty to move to while also offering a chance to feel. Rina’s delivery is beautifully charismatic. I was gripped.

From there we get seven more track gives us variations on pop. City That’s Not There gives us pulsating electronica while Into Me is low and moody. I Saw It is a simmering, piano-led ballad. Time To Say Goodbye sees Rina take on the Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman classic of the same name. What Do You Want is bouncy and percussive. Away introduces some late album dark pop before So Wrong closes the collection with a smouldering number.

Rina has all she needs to make an impression in the world of pop and one suspects that this debut album is just the start of things. I look forward to seeing how her career develops.
