The Fairfax, Virginia, USA-based duo of Jessica and Steve, Higher Selves Playdate are new to our blog through their new single, Take Me With You.
By Graeme Smith
An upbeat pop-rock number, Take Me With You has an instantly infectious feel to it. Bright vocals sing in harmony over a bouncy, jangly instrumental that will bring a smile to your face.
“Take Me With You is an invitation to bliss in the midst of chaos,” the duo says. “It’s about the pleasure and difficulty of staying open to experience.”
Jessica and Steve met in graduate school studying poetry together. Now, Jessica teaches art and Steve works in the nonprofit world while also playing in the band Folklore. They have a clear chemistry in their music, and a relatable style that makes me want to get to know them better.
Take Me With You is being released alongside the band’s album The New Apocalyptic, a record that explores the current moment, countering war, fascism, malice, injustice, fear, secrecy, division, groupthink, and alienation with joy, play, togetherness, and love.
The single is out now, and you can listen to it below.
