Anna Josephine takes us on a summer drive from the passenger seat

Back with a country-pop love song for the summer, Anna Josephine takes to the passenger seat in Gasoline Daydream.

By Graeme Smith

Opening lively with percussion and handclaps, there’s an instantly anthemic feel to Gasoline Daydream. Anna Josephine’s narrative rich lyrics are charismatically delivered by her vocals, and things get soaring in the chorus.

“I was looking for parking late at night with someone I love very much and he apologised for not being able to find anywhere for us to stop but I said I didn’t care and I would drive around until the morning with him if I had to,” she explains about the origin of the song. “‘I’d drive around with you ‘til 6am when the parking meters start again.’ This is my love letter to being a passenger princess.”

Anna Josphine’s music came to our attention in 2023 when Jane shared her ’50s and ‘60s folk-inspired single, Oh, Joan. More recently, I ran the rule over her coming of age story, Saturn Return. She has a knack for honest storytelling in her music, and plenty of charm to keep us coming back for more.

Gasoline Daydream is out now, and you can listen to it below.
