Irina Imme pens ’00s pop rock heartbreak anthem

If you’ve ever had the unfortunate experience of being ghosted by someone you care about, then you may find some solace in Irina Imme’s latest single, Rather Die.

By Graeme Smith

After going through it herself, Imme took up her songwriting pen and pulled together a track to express the emotion of it all. Rather Die takes on the themes of unrequited love and emotional turmoil through a ‘00s pop rock sound akin to Avril Lavigne and Weezer.

Opening with a steady guitar rhythm, we get an early taste of Imme’s expressive and compelling vocals. They shine during the stripped-back first verse, delivering their simple and poignant lyrics.

A catchy chorus sees the instrumental arrangement ramp up subtly before things explode for the second verse. The emotion of Imme’s vocals never let up, holding the ear throughout. The entire track oozes with a cynical with and charm. It’s easy to fall in love with and sing along to.

The London-based Irina Imme joined forces with producer Dave Tither to create the single.
