Toronto, Canada-based artist Mahta’s name literally translates as “moonlike.” It’s a label she’s co-opted for her upcoming EP, which is heralded by her debut single, I Don’t Mind.
By Graeme Smith
The single marks her out as an artist with a distinct sound. Her brand of raucous indie rock is infused with warm brass and a strong sense of individualism. The lyrics reflect on human nature, unearthing its tragedy and absurdity. A cynicism looms large in the verse before the chorus gives us some cathartic counterpoints.
Mahta is a growing presence on the Toronto scene, and her debut is likely to find her a lot more fans. You can now include us among them.
I Don’t Mind is out now, and you can give it a listen below.
