I Might Be An Alien is Lee Switzer-Woolf’s new single release, following on from his 2022 debut album Scientific Automatic Palmistry, and his 2023 album Annihilation Signals.
By Eleanor Banyard
This track is an engaging and thought-provoking piece about what it feels like to be different, highlighting the artist’s honest and reflective writing alongside atmospheric Radiohead-coded instrumentals which create an unsettling yet still profoundly immersive sound.
I Might Be An Alien begins with light and haunting instrumentals and a gentle melody, which blend into the background and mix with the lyrics. The artist describes the release as being “about routine and the ways in which you can lose yourself to contentment and disappear inside of yourself.” Switzer-Woolf’s voice is soft and emotional, bringing out the message of the song clearly in a way that is easy to listen to whilst still carrying depth.
As the track develops, there is a shift in tone around two and a half minutes in. The drums become a core part of the backing instrumentals, and the song becomes more energetic, whilst still delivering the same melancholic and relatable message.
This song is both calming and unsettling, with its contrasting electronic instrumentals and thoughtful lyrics.
