We recently caught up with indie-pop outfit Go Like This following the release of their vibrant new single I Do, which we also reviewed in our recent Monthly Favourites Remastered series. It’s a fantastic track with a great energy and some soaring hooks, so if you’ve not checked the tune out yet, you can also find it at the end of our interview with the band.

How has your year been so far? All good I hope?
Yes, thanks, we’ve had a great year so far! It’s been very busy on the music side of things, as we’ve been really putting our focus on the band this year with lots of writing, recording and gigging. Trying to balance all that with family, work and life in general can be challenging, but we’re blessed and grateful to be in the position we’re in.
You’ve just released a new single called I Do. I absolutely love it – what can you tell our readers about the track?
Ah, thank you so much!
Well, the song was written in late 2025, and it began when Aoife said she’d love to make a drum and bass style summer tune. Seán ran with the idea and wrote the main riff, brought it into rehearsal and then we all jammed it together. After a few run-throughs, Aoife stopped us and said “the song is called I Do”, and much of the lyrics and tune came to her in that workshop session. That’s often how our songs come to be: one of us brings in an idea to rehearsal – whether that’s a riff from Seán, a beat from Rafael or lyrics or melody from Aoife – and we workshop it until more ideas form. Some of our songs come together very quickly that way, it’s definitely the foundation of our writing style, it’s a very collaborative approach. It’s intuitive and each song naturally comes to life that way and establishes a unique identity.
The recording process was fascinating as we saw the song really find its final form while working with Alex Vinci from Narrow Door Records. His personable approach, and professional skill were key in bringing out the best in the song. Tom Peters on mixing and Stephen Kerrison on mastering both also helped find the final identity of I Do, and we love it.
It’s your debut single which makes it all the more impressive! How has the reception been so far?
The reception has been great to be fair. We’ve had such fantastic support from our family and friends which we are deeply grateful for. The single got over two thousand streams on Spotify in the first two weeks, and the music video has also been doing well on YouTube since it came out on the 27th July. As an independent band, we’re delighted with how things have been going so far. We’re trying not to focus too much on the numbers now that the song is out. We put in a lot of effort in the lead up to release – self promoting and planning the rollout properly – and having done our best with that, we kind of want to let it do its thing.
It’s out there, people can hear it, and that’s what we set out to do. Time for the next thing!
Are there any plans to release any more singles in the near future?
Short answer, yes! We can’t give any specific dates yet, but we have plans to be back in the studio soon which we are very excited about. We hope to have another single out by the end of this year, with more releases planned for 2027.
I know you’re fairly new on the scene, but are there any plans to release an EP or album in the coming years?
Absolutely, we are very ambitious about our recording and release plans. Actually, before I Do was even out, the three of us were sitting together at the table down home, writing the track list for our second album! We joke that maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves, but truthfully, we have so many songs written already and Seán literally can’t stop writing new music, so we’d better get an album out ASAP!
You’re a trio of siblings from Cork. Why did you decide to form the band together and how did it happen?
Well, we always played music together growing up, first mainly covers and just for fun. We did a bit of busking in different constellations around West Cork over the years, and played the odd show here and there. Later on, Seán and Rafael busked original instrumentals in Cork City as Bróbots. While we officially named the band Go Like This at the start of 2024, there are still some songs that we had written years before that we play now. For example, TNT was written in 2020 during the lockdown but wasn’t fully realised until we started gigging properly last year.
I suppose it feels like we were heading in this direction slowly, but it took the right time and the right focus and decisiveness from each of us to finally commit to a shared vision and officially start the band.
Who would you say your main influences are as artists? What have you been listening to recently?
Biffy Clyro are definitely a huge influence on our music. We love their range, their mix of grit, beautiful vocal melodies, heavy instrumentals and odd time signatures. Their authenticity and the way they come across off-stage also resonates with us. Enter Shikari, Royal Blood and Queens of the Stone Age are other big influences on our sound, while Hayley Wiliams of Paramore would be a big inspiration to Aoife’s vocals.
A band that we’ve recently discovered is unpeople from the UK. They have this amazing blend in their sound that spans across metal, rock and pop, and we feel like we resonate with their approach to songwriting.
You’ve performed in Ireland a few times. What can fans expect from a Go Like This gig?
High energy, good vibes and a big range in style. We do have some softer songs in our sets as we love to play with dynamics, but what we are mostly known for is our infectious energy, tasty breakdowns and uplifting choruses. We love a big singalong as much as we love a gnarly mosh pit, and you can expect both at our gigs.
Are there any plans to tour in the UK in the near future?
We have nothing locked in yet but we’re excited to break through to international audiences and play in as many places as we can. We really believe in our music, and we want to share it with as many people as possible.
Any last words for the fans?
Thank you so much for all the wonderful support. It means so much to us, and we’re infinitely grateful for all the opportunities we’ve had this far. We’ve got big plans and ambitions, and can’t wait to share more of our music with you all.
