It’s been several years since we last featured Patrick Doval’s music in these pages (last shared in our Sounds of the North review), so I was delighted to get the chance to listen to his new single Rocket to The Moon!
By Jane Howkins
Patrick has been quite prolific over the years, using his music to convey his high-concept storytelling powers to the human race, and Rocket to The Moon is no different. Within this song, the singer-songwriter creates an immersive sci-fi world in which his surreal yet romantic lyrics really manage to take off, creating a unique form of love song. Musically, the track has something of a rock/garage rock sound – the production quality is a little raw at times, but the grittiness actually adds to the song in some ways! Patrick also collaborates with drummer Pete Parada (formally of The Offspring) here, showing the sheer talent on board this flying Rocket to The Moon!
