A unique café experience is hoping to open up in the heart of York, and it’s looking to the city’s residents for help.

Random Encounter is a new startup looking to open York’s first ever Pop Culture Café this summer. It will be a place for any and all pop culture lovers to come enjoy great food and drink whilst engaging in their favorite hobbies – video games, board games, comic books, movies – Random Encounter will be the ultimate, judgment-free pop culture hub.

This exciting new venture is the brainchild of local couple, Wes Hall and Ellen Stubbings. “We never had a clubhouse, so we decided to make our own” said Ellen Stubbings, Full Time Illustrator and Random Encounter Co-Founder. “We love everything the café stands for and realized there isn’t a place for people to go enjoy and discuss their favorite pop culture hobbies.” On making Random Encounter a reality, Wes Hall, who works full time on bringing RE to life, said “We’ve got a fully costed business plan and we’re working with the Princes Trust, but to make such an ambitious project feasible, we’ve launched a Kickstarter campaign and are asking the people of York for help!”

Launching on May 29th, the Kickstarter was 10% funded in 24 hours. Not wanting something for nothing, Random Encounter’s Kickstarter campaign has 20 unique backer rewards including –
